Signal Check

I went on the air. After using my SDR to listen to the 2meter band I realized there was chatter on a repeater at 145.310MHz. I looked it up and it’s run by the Colorado Connection Repeaters. Its a set of linked 2 meter repeaters in a big area of western colorado! So when you’re talking into it, everyone in 16 different areas of mostly west of i25 can hear you!

I mustered the confidence to ask for a signal check and Peter, K0VJDMHz. I looked it up and it’s run by the Colorado Connection Repeaters. I was connected to the Denver/Boulder repeater which is on top of Thorodin Mountain in Golden Gate Canyon State Park, and mustered the confidence to ask for a signal check and Peter, K0VJD from Colorado Springs from Colorado Springs responded and basically told me what I already knew – my signal was 3/5 and scratchy on this low-end Baofeng radio.

After googling around, I think it would be cool to hike near there and see if I can see the repeater which looks like its on Starr Peak. Google shows that there is a USDA Forest Service building with a bunch of repeaters on top of it! That might be a cool thing to do – hike mixed with radio stuff. At least you could get help because you’d be walking toward or away from a giant communiations nexus?
